Kansas City, MO – A widespread cold snap is bringing dangerous overnight temperatures to the Kansas City metro and surrounding counties in both Missouri and eastern Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday, with a second Freeze Warning scheduled from midnight tonight through 9 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 23°F during the second warning period.

The alert affects more than 30 counties, including Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass in Missouri, as well as Johnson, Wyandotte, and Leavenworth in Kansas. These conditions could damage unprotected outdoor plumbing and kill sensitive plants or early crops.

Gardeners and farmers are urged to cover or bring in tender vegetation and ensure irrigation systems are drained or insulated. Homeowners should check that outdoor pipes are properly wrapped to prevent freezing.

Sub-freezing temperatures in early April are not unusual for this region, but back-to-back warnings highlight the severity of the cold spell. Daytime highs are expected to rebound slightly midweek, but nighttime lows may continue flirting with freezing levels through Wednesday.
