Dodge City, KS – A significant winter storm is impacting southwest Kansas, bringing blizzard conditions, heavy snowfall, and dangerously strong winds through early Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Dodge City has issued a Blizzard Warning and Winter Weather Advisory for the region, with hazardous travel conditions expected.

According to the NWS, winds will sustain between 35-45 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 70 mph. Combined with snowfall, these conditions will lead to whiteout visibility, making travel extremely dangerous. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential power outages due to strong wind gusts.

The blizzard warning is in effect for multiple counties, including Dodge City, Garden City, and Liberal, with the highest snowfall rates expected overnight. Road closures and reduced visibility are likely across highways and local roads.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors, secure outdoor objects, and have an emergency kit ready. Snow showers will gradually decrease by Wednesday afternoon, but winds will remain gusty.
