Grand Island, NE – A blizzard warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday for portions of north-central Kansas and central, east-central, and south-central Nebraska, bringing hazardous travel conditions and potential power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, affected areas could see between 2 and 6 inches of snowfall, with wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph. Whiteout conditions are expected due to blowing and falling snow, with visibility dropping below a quarter-mile at times. The strongest impacts are anticipated during the Wednesday morning commute.

Travel is strongly discouraged, as roads may become impassable. Motorists who must travel are urged to carry a winter survival kit and remain with their vehicle if stranded. Officials recommend delaying all non-essential travel and using extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.

Residents should prepare for power outages and tree damage due to the high winds. Emergency management authorities advise securing loose outdoor objects and having emergency supplies ready.

For the latest road conditions, travelers can dial 511 in their respective states. The storm is expected to subside by Wednesday afternoon, but lingering impacts may persist as crews work to clear roads and restore power.
