Kansas City, MO – Strong thunderstorms are expected to impact parts of Kansas and Missouri beginning Tuesday evening and continuing into early Wednesday, bringing the potential for quarter-size hail and localized flooding.

According to the US National Weather Service in Kansas City, a weak front sagging southward is expected to trigger showers and storms with a 50–60% chance of development overnight into Wednesday morning. While only marginally severe, some of these storms could produce hail up to the size of a quarter.

The weather pattern is forecast to remain unsettled through the latter half of the week, with additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms possible across the region. The ongoing risk of heavy rainfall may cause renewed flooding concerns, especially in east central Kansas and central Missouri, where soils may already be saturated.

Residents should monitor local alerts, secure loose outdoor items, and be prepared for changing road conditions. Those in flood-prone areas are advised to avoid driving through water-covered roads and remain aware of rapidly changing conditions.

While the overall threat for severe weather remains low, the combination of multiple storm rounds and heavy rain underscores the need for caution across the central Plains through midweek.
