Kankakee, IL – Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis announced his bid for a second term last night, promising significant economic development for the city, including a new grocery store.

The announcement was made at the intersection of North St. Joseph’s Ave. and Court Street, a site he envisions transforming. “I want to bring a grocery store to the city of Kankakee,” Mayor Curtis stated, emphasizing the need for fresh produce and meat options on the east side, which currently faces a food desert. Curtis committed to delivering this project if re-elected.

Public safety was also a key issue in Curtis’s speech, noting that high crime rates hinder economic growth in the area. The election is scheduled for next April.
