Miami, Florida – Localized flooding and afternoon thunderstorms could impact parts of South Florida on Wednesday as heavy rainfall targets inland communities from Naples to Belle Glade.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, most areas will see under 1 inch of rain, but isolated pockets could receive 2 to 3+ inches in a short period. The heaviest rain is expected to develop inland by the afternoon, particularly across southwest Florida. Storms may also produce gusty winds and small hail.

While the risk of widespread flooding remains low, urban areas like Homestead, LaBelle, and Immokalee could see rapid water accumulation if downpours align over dense developments. Miami and Fort Lauderdale are less likely to see direct impacts but could experience isolated showers through the morning.

Motorists on US-41, Alligator Alley, and I-75 should drive with caution, especially during peak afternoon travel hours. If heavy rainfall occurs, ponding and brief road closures may follow.

The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (5–15%) for excessive rainfall today across the region. Thunderstorms are likely to subside overnight, but updates are expected if rainfall intensifies.
