Binghamton, NY – Early risers across southern and central New York should brace for near-freezing temperatures as a Frost Advisory goes into effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday, threatening crops and gardens in the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop to near 33°F in many valleys and rural areas. The advisory includes Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca, Cortland, Norwich, Delhi, and Monticello, among others. Conditions farther north, including Syracuse and Utica, will remain warmer with lows in the upper 30s to mid-40s.

The cold snap could damage sensitive plants, especially in low-lying spots of the Southern Tier and Catskills. Residents are advised to cover outdoor vegetation or bring plants indoors overnight. Local farmers may want to run frost-prevention equipment to protect crops during the early morning hours.

While this type of advisory is rare in June, it’s not unheard of for interior valleys of New York. Monday’s chill is expected to be brief, with warmer temperatures returning later in the week.

Frost warnings remain in effect through 8 a.m. Monday. A return to seasonal weather is expected by Tuesday.
