Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for central Iowa, in effect from 4 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, due to expected mixed precipitation that could create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the NWS, the advisory affects numerous counties, including Polk, Dallas, Story, and Cerro Gordo, with total snow and sleet accumulations expected to be less than an inch. Ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch are possible, particularly impacting roads and sidewalks.

The NWS warns that the Friday evening commute and early Saturday travel could be affected by slippery conditions. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and exercise caution during this time.

For real-time travel updates, residents are encouraged to use the Iowa 511 app or visit www.511ia.org.
