Omaha, NE – A brutal Arctic blast is set to bring dangerously cold temperatures and accumulating snow to Iowa and Nebraska this week. Wind chills could plunge as low as 35 below zero, making conditions life-threatening for anyone exposed to the elements.
According to the National Weather Service, snow is likely late Sunday night into Tuesday, with at least four inches expected in areas south of Albion, Wahoo, and Red Oak, Iowa. High winds could cause blowing snow and reduced visibility on major roadways, especially east-west routes.
By Monday, highs will barely reach 11 degrees, and conditions will worsen into Tuesday with a slight chance of more snow. The coldest period is expected from Tuesday night through Thursday morning, when wind chills of 25 to 35 below zero will peak.
Residents should take precautions by limiting outdoor exposure, preparing vehicles for extreme cold, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Cold weather advisories and warnings are expected in the coming days.
The bitter cold may begin to ease by Friday, with highs creeping toward the upper 20s. However, frigid conditions will persist through most of the week.
