Carter Lake, IA – A mix of freezing rain and snow could impact travel across western Iowa late Saturday into early Sunday morning. Drivers on I-29 and surrounding routes should remain alert for slippery conditions and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will rise to the mid-30s Saturday afternoon before a wintry mix develops overnight. Light freezing rain and snow are expected from midnight to 3 a.m., though significant accumulation is unlikely. Temperatures will plummet into the low 20s by Sunday, bringing gusty northwest winds that may create hazardous driving conditions.

Sunday’s forecast remains cold but mostly dry, with highs in the lower 30s and wind chills dipping into the teens. Starting Monday, a sharp drop in temperatures will bring daytime highs in the low 20s and overnight lows near 10°F. Winds up to 22 mph could make it feel even colder.

By midweek, conditions will begin to improve, with sunny skies and highs rebounding to the 40s by Thursday. Until then, residents are encouraged to plan ahead for cold weather and possible icy roads.
