Des Moines, IA – Breezy winds and chilly temperatures are in store for central Iowa this weekend as a warming trend approaches. Gusts of 25-35 mph are expected today and Sunday, particularly along I-35 and in northern Iowa. Tonight, temperatures will dip into the single digits, with wind chill values making it feel even colder.
According to the National Weather Service, today’s highs will range from 30 to 41 degrees, with cooler temperatures to the northwest. Sunday will see highs only in the upper 20s to low 30s. Winds will shift west-southwest by Sunday evening, gusting to 20-30 mph. Drivers along major roadways, including I-35, should be cautious of reduced visibility due to blowing debris.
By Monday, temperatures will rise significantly, reaching the mid-40s across much of the region. This warming trend is expected to persist through midweek, bringing sunny skies and daytime highs nearing 50 degrees on Tuesday. Overnight lows, however, will remain cold, hovering around the low 20s.
The forecast calls for continued dry conditions with little to no precipitation expected through the week. This presents a good opportunity for outdoor activities, particularly as winds subside on Monday. Residents are encouraged to prepare for fluctuating temperatures and to secure lightweight outdoor items during the gusty conditions.
