Des Moines, Iowa – A weak storm system could bring light showers to parts of southeast and central Iowa late Friday night, with temperatures dropping into the mid-40s.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the system will move across northern Iowa this evening and overnight, increasing cloud cover across the region. A slight 15–20% chance of rain exists for southeast Iowa, with expected precipitation totals under a tenth of an inch.
Cities like Ottumwa, Fairfield, and Mount Pleasant may see brief, light rain after midnight. While no flooding or severe weather is expected, residents should remain cautious on wet roads, especially in rural areas where visibility may drop.
Temperatures are expected to dip to between 42 and 49 degrees overnight, marking a cooler start to the weekend. With minimal rainfall expected, the primary impact will be damp conditions and limited sunshine early Saturday.
Light showers could linger through dawn in the southeast corner of the state, but no additional advisories are currently planned. Updates will be issued if rainfall increases.
