Iowa Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Could Drench Davenport by Tuesday Afternoon

Davenport, Iowa – Thunderstorms are expected to roll into the Davenport area Tuesday night, bringing the potential for up to 2 inches of rain and dangerous driving conditions through early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a 90% chance of storms and showers will develop after 1 p.m. Tuesday, continuing into the night. Rainfall could range from a quarter-inch to as much as two inches in localized spots. Gusty winds may accompany some storms, with wind speeds up to 20 mph.

Showers will begin earlier Tuesday with a 70% chance of precipitation by afternoon, raising concerns about flash flooding on low-lying roads and along the Mississippi River. South winds will pick up to 15 mph with higher gusts, adding to travel hazards. The threat extends across Scott County and surrounding areas including Bettendorf and Rock Island.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, check gutters for debris, and avoid driving through water-covered roadways. Power outages may be possible with stronger storm cells.

The chance of showers continues into Wednesday morning before clearing later in the day. Additional rain may return Thursday.
