Des Moines, IA – Cold temperatures and light flurries will linger into Saturday evening before clearing skies lead to a frosty night, with lows near 13 degrees. Single-digit wind chills are expected, making for a bitterly cold start to Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will bring sunnier skies and slightly warmer conditions, with highs near 26 degrees. However, wind chills will still make it feel colder. Drivers along Interstate 235 and other major roads should remain cautious as any remaining moisture from snow flurries could freeze overnight, creating slick spots.
A gradual warming trend is forecast for the week ahead. By Tuesday, temperatures will rise to the mid-30s, with a high of 34 degrees under partly sunny skies. Wednesday will bring even more relief, with a high of 44 degrees expected and plenty of sunshine.
Residents are advised to bundle up during evening hours and remain alert for changing road conditions, particularly overnight. The mild temperatures later in the week offer a welcome break, but cooler weather is likely to return as December progresses.
