Davenport, Iowa – A line of strong summer storms is expected to soak eastern Iowa Tuesday, June 3rd, bringing the risk of flash flooding and dangerous travel conditions across Scott County and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms will develop Tuesday morning and intensify by late afternoon. The heaviest rainfall is forecast between 3 p.m. and midnight, with new rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches possible in the Davenport area. Wind gusts may reach 30 mph, especially near storm cells.

Motorists along US-61 and I-280 should prepare for slick conditions and brief localized flooding. Commuters are urged to avoid low-lying routes and allow extra time. The NWS warns that poor drainage in urban areas could lead to water ponding on roadways.

Tuesday night’s threat continues as storms linger, dumping additional rain. Temperatures will dip to the upper 50s by early Wednesday.

The remainder of the week brings some relief but not without interruptions. A chance of scattered showers continues through Wednesday night, with drier and slightly cooler air arriving by Thursday. Highs will hover in the upper 70s.

Residents should keep mobile alerts enabled, charge devices, and secure outdoor items in advance of Tuesday’s storms.
