Omaha, NE – A powerful windstorm is sweeping through Nebraska and Iowa this weekend, bringing gusts up to 60 mph Saturday. While conditions will improve Sunday and Monday, a chance of snow returns by Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service, northwest winds will intensify overnight into Saturday, leading to hazardous travel with blowing debris and reduced visibility. Gusts could reach 60 mph in some areas, especially along I-80. Rain showers will taper off Saturday morning, followed by drier but breezy conditions into Sunday.

Sunday will be sunny with highs in the mid-50s, providing a brief break from the gusty winds. Monday, St. Patrick’s Day, will be even warmer, reaching the mid-70s under mostly clear skies—ideal for outdoor celebrations. However, a major shift arrives Tuesday night as colder air returns.

A developing system could bring rain changing to snow Tuesday night into Wednesday, particularly in northeast Nebraska and western Iowa. Forecasters expect accumulation in some areas, but strong winds may cause blowing snow and difficult travel.

By Wednesday morning, temperatures will drop into the 20s, with highs struggling to reach the 40s. The cooler trend continues into late next week, with lingering chances of snow.

Drivers should use caution this weekend and stay updated on midweek snow chances. Check local forecasts for the latest updates.
