Des Moines, Iowa – Outdoor plans across Iowa are in the clear this Mother’s Day weekend as a stretch of dry, summer-like weather sets in through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, temperatures will rise into the low 80s by Saturday afternoon and stay consistently warm through at least Thursday, May 15. Sunny skies and light winds make this weekend ideal for travel, events, and outdoor gatherings—especially across Polk, Dallas, and Story counties. No rain is expected, and conditions remain calm along I-35 and I-80, easing statewide traffic flow.

Saturday will reach a high of 83°F with light southeast winds. Sunday (Mother’s Day) looks nearly identical, bringing 83°F under sunny skies and a low near 56°F overnight. Monday keeps the summer pattern intact, reaching 82°F with mostly clear skies Monday night and a low of 59°F.

By Tuesday, highs jump again to 83°F, then peak near 87°F on Wednesday, marking one of the warmest stretches this spring. No severe weather or rain threats are forecast during this period.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and monitor pets and vehicles during the warmer midday hours. While no weather alerts are active, extended heat could impact vulnerable individuals.

Clear skies and rising heat dominate Iowa’s pattern into late next week. Expect continued updates if any air quality alerts or storm shifts develop.
