Quad Cities, IA/IL – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of Iowa, Illinois, and northern Missouri starting late Saturday night and continuing through Sunday. Heavy snow, gusting winds, and potential whiteout conditions could disrupt travel and daily activities.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches are possible, with the heaviest snowfall likely near the Iowa-Missouri border and into west-central Illinois. The storm is expected to begin late Saturday evening, intensifying early Sunday and tapering off by Sunday night. Blowing and drifting snow could significantly reduce visibility, particularly along major highways such as I-74 and I-80.
Residents are urged to plan ahead by securing essential supplies and delaying travel during peak snowfall hours. Those traveling should prepare for delays and monitor road conditions through state DOT websites.
Temperatures across the Quad Cities are expected to remain below freezing, with daytime highs reaching only the low 20s through Sunday. The weather will clear up by Monday, though gusty winds and frigid temperatures will linger into next week.
The storm comes as the Midwest settles into the first weekend of the new year. With high snowfall probabilities, cities like Davenport, Rock Island, and Moline could see some of the highest totals. Local authorities advise caution on roadways, especially in rural and open areas where conditions may deteriorate quickly.
Be sure to follow updated forecasts and alerts for real-time storm developments. The next update from the National Weather Service is expected later today.
