Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Showers and thunderstorms will clear out by Friday afternoon, leaving the Quad Cities under mostly cloudy skies and cooler air moving in for the weekend. Drivers and residents across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois should prepare for chilly lows tonight, with temperatures dropping to the mid-30s in northern areas and upper 40s farther south.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the highest risk for rain today is across northwest and northern regions, while southern areas will see highs near the low 70s. Most areas north will remain cooler, topping out in the 50s and 60s. Dry and pleasant weather is expected Saturday, but parts of northwest Illinois could see the season’s first frost Saturday night into early Sunday.

Roadways may be slick this morning, especially where heavy showers passed, but conditions will improve as skies clear. Residents are encouraged to cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors, and charge devices in case of any weather-related outages early next week.

Showers and storms are likely to return by Sunday night, with severe weather possible Monday evening. Stay tuned for further updates as new advisories could be issued through the start of the week.
