Iowa and Illinois are already seeing flashes of lightning and damp pavement across the Quad Cities, and more rounds of storms are lining up through the day. The air feels muggy, and clouds continue to thicken as instability builds.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, thunderstorms are expected through the day and into the evening, with a marginal risk for severe weather. Some storms could produce small hail and damaging wind gusts, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
Across Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline, drivers along I-80 and I-74 should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Roads may become slick quickly after bursts of rain. Gusty winds ahead of storms could also push debris into travel lanes, especially on open bridges over the Mississippi River.
Storm chances increase into midweek. By Wednesday, widespread showers develop, with rain becoming steady at times and continuing into Thursday. Some locations could see one to two inches of rainfall, raising the risk of localized flooding and rising creeks.
Additional rounds of storms are possible late week into the weekend, keeping conditions unsettled as April begins. Temperatures dip midweek before rebounding slightly by Friday, reinforcing a classic early spring pattern.
Plan for changing conditions each day. Allow extra travel time and avoid water-covered roads when rain intensifies.
