Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Severe weather is expected to roll into the Quad Cities starting at 8 p.m. Monday night, bringing the potential for damaging winds, hail, and even tornadoes through early Tuesday morning. Local residents should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions and stay updated on weather alerts.

According to the National Weather Service, storms will likely develop as a cold front moves into the region, with storm coverage ranging from 50 to 70 percent, highest in the northern areas. The storm threat will remain through the overnight hours, lasting until about 2 a.m. CDT Tuesday.

While the storm system could affect a wide portion of the region, confidence remains low regarding exactly which areas will see the most severe weather, with some spots potentially missing out on heavy storms. Isolated storms may form as early as Monday afternoon if a “cap” breaks, but these are expected to be limited.

Residents of the Quad Cities and surrounding counties are advised to monitor local weather closely. Any storms that do develop Monday evening into Tuesday night will have the capability of producing damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. Stay indoors, avoid travel if possible, and ensure your emergency kit is ready.

Warnings and advisories will likely update as the storm system progresses through the night. Make sure to check for updated alerts before heading out.
