Quad Cities, IA-IL – A winter storm system moving into Iowa and Illinois midweek could create hazardous travel conditions, with freezing rain and snow likely Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities, the storm’s exact track remains uncertain, but temperatures will play a critical role in determining precipitation types. Rain is expected to transition into freezing rain and snow as colder air pushes into the region. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, may become slick, impacting major highways such as I-80 and I-74.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions and potential travel disruptions. The NWS advises drivers to allow extra time for commutes and to stay updated on forecast changes. Ice accumulation could create hazardous roadways, and snow in some areas may further complicate travel.

Ahead of the storm, Monday and Tuesday will bring unseasonably warm weather, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. By Wednesday, temperatures will drop into the mid-30s, allowing wintry precipitation to develop. The system should exit the region by Thursday, with dry but colder conditions continuing into the weekend.

Stay alert for forecast updates and prepare for possible winter weather impacts midweek.
