Quad Cities, Iowa – Strong evening storms could sweep across northern Iowa tonight, with the highest risk centered along the Highway 20 corridor between 7 and 11 p.m. Quarter-sized hail and damaging wind gusts may impact cities like Waterloo and Dubuque as isolated storms move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms remains in effect for areas north of Interstate 80. Storms that do develop are expected to be short-lived but capable of locally strong impacts, especially near Waterloo, where the atmosphere is most primed for instability.

Drivers along Highways 20 and 63 should stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, including falling branches from gusty winds. Outdoor events may be disrupted, particularly for those without immediate shelter options. The NWS advises residents to have multiple methods of receiving warnings—especially overnight—and to move indoors if thunder roars.

Storm chances will continue through Friday, though severe weather is not expected beyond tonight. A cooler, quieter pattern arrives by the weekend.
