Quad Cities, IA/IL – Unseasonably warm weather will blanket the Quad Cities through Friday, with highs reaching the mid-80s. However, a cold front moving in by Monday night could bring widespread frost, signaling a significant shift in temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will rise to around 80 degrees today and reach highs near 87 degrees on Friday, making it the warmest day of the week. This warmth will come with plenty of sunshine, providing ideal conditions for outdoor activities over the next few days. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the warm spell, but also to prepare for a drop in temperatures this weekend.

As temperatures moderate on Saturday, expect highs in the upper 70s, with partly cloudy skies. By Sunday, the high will only reach 64 degrees, with a low near 39 expected overnight. The National Weather Service has indicated that by Monday night, temperatures could dip into the low 30s, with the possibility of frost. Tuesday night is also forecasted to be at risk for frost or even a hard freeze, which could affect local gardens and outdoor plants.

Local gardeners should take precautions, as frost can damage sensitive plants. Now is a good time to bring potted plants indoors or cover vulnerable plants in your garden. Additionally, residents should monitor local weather updates closely for frost advisories or warnings as the cold front approaches.

Travelers and commuters, especially those using the I-74 and I-80 corridors, should be prepared for potential frost-related hazards, particularly during early morning hours next week. The Quad Cities area may experience slick spots on roadways due to overnight freezing, and visibility could be impacted by morning fog combined with frost. Keep an eye on the forecast and plan accordingly for safer travel.
