Quad Cities, IA/IL – Severe storms will sweep across the Iowa-Illinois border starting around 3 p.m. Tuesday, bringing heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and a risk of isolated tornadoes through 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) is in effect south of I-80, with a Marginal Risk (Level 1) extending to northern areas. The system is capable of producing rainfall rates over 1 inch per hour, particularly in urban areas, where minor flooding may occur. Total rainfall between 1–2 inches is expected.
Cities in the direct path include Burlington, Macomb, Galesburg, and the Quad Cities region. The strongest storms are forecast to move through Burlington by 4–6 p.m., reaching the Quad Cities and Macomb closer to 5–7 p.m., then continuing toward Peoria and surrounding counties through early evening.
Potential hazards include isolated damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and a low chance of brief, isolated tornadoes. Flash flooding is also possible in areas with poor drainage.
Residents should charge devices, secure outdoor items, and be ready to shelter. Warnings may be issued quickly with fast-moving storms approaching from the southwest at 50 mph.
Severe weather threats remain possible until 8 p.m., with more alerts likely if storm activity intensifies.
