Quad Cities, IA/IL – Residents near the Iowa-Illinois border face very high fire danger today as strong winds and dry conditions sweep across the region. Southerly winds could gust up to 30 mph, posing a significant fire risk, particularly for cured crops in rural areas. Authorities urge extreme caution, warning farmers and outdoor enthusiasts to avoid brush burning and use extra care with equipment.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities, the high fire danger will persist through the afternoon due to low humidity and dry conditions. Any fires that develop in the area could spread quickly, especially in fields of cured crops. Affected regions include counties like Rock Island, Mercer, and Muscatine, where local winds will peak this afternoon. Residents are asked to remain vigilant, discard cigarettes properly, and avoid any fire-related activities.

Looking ahead, the weather will warm significantly through the weekend, with highs reaching the mid-70s by Saturday and potentially hitting 80 degrees on Sunday. Winds will calm slightly to 10-15 mph by Saturday night. While there is a 20-30 percent chance of rain by Monday evening, most of the area is expected to remain dry, continuing the fire risk until early next week.
