Des Moines, IA – Another round of extreme cold is set to grip central Iowa this weekend, with wind chill values dropping as low as -20°F. The National Weather Service warns that dangerous conditions will persist through Friday morning, with bitter temperatures lingering into Saturday.

According to the NWS, Des Moines will see lows near -4°F overnight, with Friday bringing a high of only 19°F. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, posing a risk of frostbite and hypothermia for those exposed to the elements. Saturday will be slightly warmer, reaching a high of 32°F, but wind chills will still be in the single digits.

By Sunday, temperatures will climb to the mid-40s, with partly cloudy skies continuing into next week. Monday’s forecast calls for a high of 52°F, offering a brief reprieve from the Arctic blast. However, another cold front may arrive by midweek, bringing a chance of rain and cooler conditions.

Residents should bundle up, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Stay updated on the latest forecasts and safety advisories as conditions evolve.
