Quad Cities, IA/IL – Residents in Iowa and Illinois face dangerously cold conditions early Sunday morning. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 27 below zero in parts of the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Cold Weather Advisory will remain in effect from 3 a.m. to noon Sunday. The advisory includes cities such as Davenport, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Rock Island. Wind chills this low can cause frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes.

Residents should dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and limit outdoor exposure. Pets should remain indoors, and portable heaters must be used safely. Checking on vulnerable neighbors and family members is also encouraged.

The NWS warns that hypothermia can occur quickly if proper precautions are not taken. Travelers should prepare emergency kits with blankets and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.

With temperatures plunging, officials stress the importance of planning ahead to minimize exposure to these life-threatening conditions. For additional updates, follow local forecasts.
