Indianapolis, Indiana – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to ramp up across Indiana tonight, with locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds posing a threat to travel and safety through Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered storms will develop late Wednesday before becoming more widespread overnight. Highs today reach 81–87°F across central Indiana, but increasing instability is setting the stage for multiple rounds of thunderstorms, some of which may turn strong.

The primary concern is localized flooding from heavy downpours, especially in low-lying areas and near poor-drainage roads. While severe weather risk is marginal, isolated storms could produce damaging wind gusts. Thursday and Friday will stay stormy, with highs in the upper 70s and overnight lows in the low to mid-60s.

Residents in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Lafayette, and Muncie should plan for possible power outages, water-covered roads, and delays during commutes. Keep mobile devices charged, avoid driving through standing water, and monitor local alerts.

The storm system is expected to move out by late Friday night, but more updates or advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
