Indianapolis, IN – A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal overdose that occurred in Indianapolis late last year.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), detectives with the Overdose Death Task Force (ODTF) arrested Ladell Dean on September 3 after identifying him as a suspect in the December 2024 death of 31-year-old Aaron Love. IMPD reported that officers initially found Love unresponsive inside a residence on Caledonia Circle on December 21, 2024. He was later pronounced dead, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office confirmed his death was caused by a drug overdose.

Investigators with the ODTF reviewed the case with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, which filed a charge of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony, against Dean. At the time of the charge, Dean was already being held at the Hendricks County Jail on unrelated matters. He was later arrested by sheriff’s deputies there on the new warrant and will be extradited to Marion County.

“Every overdose death represents a life cut short and a family left grieving,” IMPD Deputy Chief of Investigations Kendale Adams said in a statement. Adams commended the work of the ODTF, prosecutors, and the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office, saying their coordinated efforts show a commitment to holding accountable those allegedly profiting from dangerous drugs.

Authorities emphasized that Dean, like anyone arrested, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
