Indianapolis, IN – The first snowfall of the season is expected today, bringing 1 to 3 inches of snow across Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Residents should prepare for slick roads, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis, light snow will fall early in the morning before tapering off. A heavier round of snow will begin this afternoon, continuing through the evening. The highest accumulations are predicted north of I-74, primarily on grassy and elevated surfaces.
Forecasters warn drivers to exercise caution as untreated roads may become hazardous. Slush and icy patches are expected during peak snowfall, especially from late afternoon to early evening. Temperatures will remain steady around 35 degrees, with gusts up to 25 mph adding to the challenge.
Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds, leave extra space between vehicles, and plan for slower travel times. NWS advises keeping an eye on weather updates throughout the day.
This snowstorm marks the start of winter weather, with more precipitation expected later this week. Residents are urged to stay prepared and prioritize safety.
