Fort Wayne, Ind. – Gusty winds and pockets of heavy rain will move through northern Indiana overnight, with wind speeds topping 45 mph in some areas as a weakening line of storms continues eastward.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, the band of showers and thunderstorms lost intensity after crossing the Illinois border, but wind gusts between 30 and 45 mph and brief downpours are still expected until early Monday morning. Lightning strikes and rumbles of thunder remain possible, though no severe weather is anticipated.
Cities along U.S. Route 30, including Valparaiso, Warsaw, and Fort Wayne, could see reduced visibility and slick roads during the early morning commute. South Bend and Elkhart may experience short bursts of rain and blustery conditions. Residents should secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel during peak gust periods.
Though the risk for damaging storms is low, isolated power flickers and minor tree damage can’t be ruled out in rural or poorly sheltered areas.
The line of storms is expected to exit Indiana by daybreak. More updates will follow if conditions change overnight.
