Indianapolis, IN – Residents across central Indiana are bracing for snowfall Friday, as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday.
The advisory warns of snow accumulations ranging between 2 to 4 inches, with higher totals possible in southeastern parts of the region. Areas included in the advisory stretch across central, east central, and south-central Indiana, affecting cities such as Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Muncie.
According to the NWS, snowfall will create slick and hazardous conditions on roads, bridges, and overpasses. Commuters are advised to anticipate delays during both the morning and evening travel periods. Reduced visibility during snowfall could further complicate driving conditions.
The heaviest snowfall is expected during the late morning and early afternoon hours. Temperatures hovering around the freezing mark may cause surfaces to become icy, increasing the risk of slips and falls for pedestrians. Residents should exercise caution on driveways, sidewalks, and outdoor stairs.
Travelers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for their journeys. Indiana’s road conditions can be monitored by calling 511 or visiting the Indiana Department of Transportation website.
Winter weather preparations include checking vehicle readiness, such as ensuring tires and wipers are in good condition. Keeping an emergency kit with blankets, water, and a flashlight in your vehicle is also recommended.
