Valparaiso, IN – Lake effect snow sweeping through Porter County today is creating hazardous travel conditions along key routes, including US Route 6. The National Weather Service has warned of slick roads, reduced visibility, and sharp temperature drops, advising drivers to allow extra time for commutes.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, snowfall is expected to continue into the early hours of Wednesday. Porter County remains under a travel advisory as snow-coated roads could become treacherous overnight. Motorists should remain cautious of sudden changes in visibility and prepare for potential delays.

Temperatures will hover near 26°F today, dropping to 23°F tonight with northwest winds up to 10 mph. Wednesday will bring partly sunny skies but frigid conditions, with a high near 22°F and wind chills as low as 18°F. By Friday night, snow is expected to return, with lows reaching 18°F.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather reports and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall hours. Plows and salt trucks are working to improve roadways, but conditions may deteriorate quickly.

The week ahead includes partly sunny skies through Thursday, followed by another round of snow Friday night. Daytime highs will remain in the mid-20s, with lows plunging into the teens.
