Fort Wayne, IN – Snow and sub-zero wind chills are set to create hazardous travel conditions across Northern Indiana late tonight and into Thursday morning. Forecasters warn of slippery roads, especially on US-30 and surrounding highways, as light snow accumulation combines with freezing temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), lake-effect clouds will linger through the evening before snow moves in after midnight. Snowfall is expected to reach up to two inches in some areas by early Thursday, with wind chills dipping as low as -10°F overnight. This combination could make roads especially treacherous during the morning commute. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel and use caution on untreated surfaces.
Thursday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with highs nearing 30°F by the afternoon, bringing some relief to the bitter cold. However, Thursday night will see temperatures drop again, with lows in the 20°F range and gusty winds making it feel even colder.
Looking ahead, Friday promises a break in the wintry weather, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-30s. Unfortunately, another system is expected to move in over the weekend, bringing a mix of rain and snow on Friday night into Saturday. Highs will hover around the mid-30s, with lows dipping back into the teens by Saturday night.
Residents should monitor weather updates and prepare for additional winter weather impacts early next week. For now, prioritize safe travel and avoid unnecessary trips during hazardous conditions.
