Fort Wayne, IN – A stretch of warming temperatures across Northern Indiana will give way to potential severe thunderstorms by Friday evening, with wind gusts and unstable air expected to impact travel and outdoor plans.

According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, northwest winds will gust up to 35 mph through Tuesday, with isolated showers developing during the day. A gradual warmup is forecast midweek, with highs climbing from the 40s and 50s to the mid-70s by Friday. The most significant concern arrives late Friday when thunderstorms are expected to develop, particularly between 6 p.m. and midnight.

Lafayette, South Bend, Fort Wayne, and surrounding cities may face strong winds, heavy rain, and localized lightning activity as part of this developing storm system. The National Weather Service highlighted the region in a slight risk zone for severe weather in its latest Severe Weather Outlook.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and prepare for sudden changes in weather conditions. Drivers should remain alert for slick roads and reduced visibility during potential storm bursts Friday night.

This system follows a seasonally cool start to the week and could mark the first severe outbreak in the area this spring.
