Indianapolis, Indiana – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are spreading across central Indiana today, with locally heavy downpours possible and cooler temperatures expected tonight.
According to the National Weather Service Indianapolis, widespread storms will impact much of the central region through Thursday, while areas in the far south could see more intense rainfall. Severe weather is not expected, but any thunderstorm could produce brief heavy rain. Daytime highs will range from the mid-60s to lower 70s before dropping sharply tonight into the 40s.
Cities like Bloomington, Columbus, and Indianapolis will see the highest chances of rain throughout the afternoon. Roads may become slick during brief downpours, especially on rural routes like US-231 and IN-46. Commuters are urged to use headlights during reduced visibility and avoid standing water on roads.
Rain chances continue into Friday with slightly cooler highs in the upper 60s and overnight lows dipping to the low 40s.
Temperatures will remain below seasonal averages into the weekend. Another update is expected by Friday morning, and additional advisories may be issued if rainfall becomes more widespread.
