Fort Wayne, Ind. – Drivers and residents east of I-69 should prepare for steady rainfall and slick roads through Tuesday evening, with totals reaching up to 1 inch in some areas, according to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana.
According to the NWS, fog formed early Monday across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, reducing visibility for morning commuters. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout the afternoon and persist into the evening. The heaviest rain is likely east of Interstate 69, where precipitation chances range from 50% to 70%.
Cities including Fort Wayne, Auburn, and Bluffton could see ponding on roadways and slower travel as rain continues into Tuesday. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 40s, with light winds shifting from the southwest to northwest. Showers will gradually taper off by Tuesday night, giving way to drier and warmer conditions midweek.
Residents are advised to avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding and use headlights during fog or heavy rain. It’s a good time to clear storm drains and check sump pumps.
Rain chances drop off by Wednesday, with highs reaching the low 70s and sunshine expected to return. However, additional weather updates may follow if rainfall amounts exceed current forecasts.
