Indianapolis, IN – Slick roads and icy walkways are causing hazardous conditions for morning commuters across central Indiana today. Freezing overnight temperatures have created icy patches on roads, particularly near I-65 and other major highways, with drivers urged to exercise extreme caution.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, temperatures dropped to 17°F overnight, with wind chills nearing single digits. Slick spots will persist through the morning as surfaces remain below freezing. Officials recommend allowing extra time for travel, reducing speed, and watching for black ice on bridges and overpasses.

Looking ahead, milder air is expected to arrive Wednesday as temperatures climb to a high of 42°F. However, with it comes a 50% chance of rain and snow in the afternoon, transitioning to freezing drizzle east of I-65 by evening. Wind gusts up to 31 mph may further reduce visibility and make driving conditions more dangerous.

By Thursday, the weather clears but remains cold, with highs around 25°F and overnight lows plummeting to 15°F. Friday brings mostly sunny skies, though high temperatures will only reach 31°F. The weekend could see a slight chance of drizzle Saturday as southwest winds pick up, pushing highs to 39°F.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts for updates, especially on potential snow or freezing drizzle later this week. Stay prepared by ensuring your vehicle is winter-ready and keeping emergency supplies on hand.
