Fort Wayne, IN – Temperatures will remain below freezing across northern Indiana this week as lake effect snow is expected to intensify Monday night into Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns of potential accumulation, particularly near the Michigan border, where snowfall could disrupt travel on I-90 and surrounding roadways.
According to the National Weather Service, snow flurries will diminish Saturday, but a renewed system will bring heavier lake effect snow Sunday night into early Tuesday. Wind chills are expected to drop to single digits, creating hazardous outdoor conditions. Drivers are urged to prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during the Tuesday morning commute.
Sunday’s forecast includes highs near 28°F and partly sunny skies. However, snow chances rise significantly Monday afternoon, with overnight lows plunging to 20°F. Tuesday will bring the heaviest snow, with temperatures hovering between 29°F and 33°F and wind gusts reaching 25 mph.
Looking ahead, snow chances will taper off by Thursday, but the region will see continued cold temperatures. Highs will stay in the low 30s, with frigid wind chills persisting through Friday.
Residents should monitor weather updates, limit travel during snowstorms, and dress warmly to prevent frostbite. Stay informed by following local advisories for road closures and weather conditions.
