Fort Wayne, Ind. – Triple-digit heat returns to Indiana on Tuesday, with heat index values soaring above 100° across the state and the threat of scattered strong storms looming between 3 and 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, peak heat indices will range from 100° to 103° in cities like Fort Wayne, Goshen, and Peru, creating dangerous conditions for anyone outdoors. A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms also covers much of northern Indiana this evening, with damaging winds and heavy rain possible.

Communities from South Bend to Lima, Ohio, should prepare for late-day storms that could briefly relieve the heat but may also cause downed branches, minor flooding, or isolated power outages. Roads like U.S. 30, I-69, and I-80/90 may see reduced visibility or slick spots during the evening commute.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and check on vulnerable neighbors. On job sites, breaks in the shade are essential, and never leave kids or pets in parked vehicles—even briefly.

The heat is expected to persist into midweek. More alerts may follow depending on storm development later today.
