Vincennes, Indiana – Drivers across southwest Indiana should prepare for snow and sleet developing late Sunday night that could create slick roads before sunrise Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, up to 1 inch of a sleet and snow mix is expected from late Sunday night through Monday morning across Sullivan, Greene, Knox, Daviess, Martin and Lawrence counties. Brief periods of freezing rain may also occur, producing very light ice accumulation on untreated surfaces.

In Vincennes, Washington, Bedford and Linton, precipitation is expected to begin after midnight, with the steadiest mix falling between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday. Roads may stay mainly wet at first, but bursts of sleet or freezing rain could quickly create slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses and rural highways such as U.S. 41 and U.S. 50.

Motorists should allow extra stopping distance and build additional travel time into the Monday morning commute. Even a thin glaze of ice can sharply reduce traction.

Precipitation should taper by midmorning Monday, with road conditions gradually improving late morning as temperatures climb. Additional updates are possible if ice becomes more widespread overnight.
