Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana residents woke up to biting cold today, with temperatures struggling to climb out of the teens. Wind chills make it feel as low as 4°F in some areas, raising safety concerns for those heading outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), high temperatures will reach only 28°F this afternoon, with clouds and flurries creating a wintry feel. Overnight lows are expected to dip to 17°F, with calm winds offering little relief. Residents are urged to layer up and limit time outside to avoid frostbite risks.

Looking ahead, Tuesday promises sunshine and a slight warm-up, with highs nearing 32°F. However, another round of hazardous conditions could impact the region by midweek. The NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Wednesday, highlighting a 20% chance of freezing drizzle or light snow. Icy conditions are expected east of I-65, making morning commutes potentially hazardous. Gusty winds up to 28 mph will further compound the chill.

By Thursday, sunny skies will return, but temperatures will plunge again, with highs only reaching 15°F and wind chills below zero possible. Friday brings a slight reprieve, with highs in the low 30s, setting the stage for a milder weekend.

Residents should prepare for fluctuating conditions and monitor updates from the NWS. Keep sidewalks salted, check on vulnerable neighbors, and ensure pets are sheltered from the cold.
