Fort Wayne, Ind. – Drivers across northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio could face hazardous conditions through 9 a.m. Thursday as ponding water and patchy fog create slick roads and limited visibility during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, heavy rainfall fell overnight, especially along and west of Interstate 69. While precipitation is expected to taper off, residual standing water and fog caused by saturated ground are likely to linger through the early morning hours. Commuters are urged to avoid cruise control, slow down, and increase following distance.

Key impact zones include Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Marion in Indiana; Coldwater, Sturgis, and Niles in Michigan; and Defiance, Lima, and Wauseon in northwest Ohio. Areas near rural roads and low-lying intersections are particularly prone to water pooling. Reduced visibility may also affect drivers on U.S. 24, U.S. 6, and U.S. 30 corridors.

Motorists should use low-beam headlights and allow extra time for travel. If you encounter fog, avoid sudden stops and stay alert for slower-moving vehicles.

Conditions should gradually improve by mid-morning, but drivers are advised to stay tuned to local updates as additional advisories may be issued.
