Fort Wayne, IN – Residents in northeast Indiana should prepare for a wintry mix of freezing rain and rain tonight, with icy roads likely by early Sunday. A period of freezing rain is expected from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., creating hazardous conditions for drivers.

According to the National Weather Service, areas north of Fort Wayne, including communities along I-69, are at the highest risk for ice accumulation. A brief glaze of ice on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses could lead to dangerous travel, particularly late tonight. While the freezing rain will transition to rain overnight, early morning commutes may remain slippery.

Temperatures today will reach 36°F before dipping to the mid-30s overnight. Rain will become widespread after 9 p.m., with winds gusting up to 20 mph. Sunday brings milder conditions, with highs near 44°F and rain continuing into the afternoon.

Looking ahead, rain tapers off Sunday night, but a chance of showers returns Monday night through Wednesday. Tuesday will offer a brief break with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 40s.

Residents are urged to monitor road conditions, drive cautiously, and allow extra travel time tonight and early Sunday. Stay updated with local weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel if roads become icy.
