Indianapolis, Indiana – Widespread dense fog is blanketing central Indiana this morning, with near-zero visibility reported along stretches north of I-70, making for a hazardous commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less in areas including Lafayette, Kokomo, Noblesville, and Muncie through 9 a.m. EDT Thursday . Patchy fog has also developed in Bloomington, Terre Haute, and surrounding areas.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles. The most severe fog is concentrated in counties north of Indianapolis, where travel could be significantly delayed. Emergency officials caution drivers to avoid unnecessary travel until the fog lifts.
This level of fog is unusual for late May and could linger through the mid-morning hours. If you’re heading out early, give yourself extra time and stay tuned to local weather updates.
Fog advisories remain in effect until 9 a.m., and additional visibility concerns could develop if moisture levels stay high into the afternoon.
