Indianapolis, Indiana – Minor flooding continues to threaten parts of western and southern Indiana as rivers remain swollen from recent heavy rains, with some roads already closed and more expected to follow through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, two to four inches of rainfall across central Indiana has caused the White, East Fork White, and Wabash rivers to rise above flood stage. Flood Warnings are now in effect for Seymour, Newberry, Edwardsport, Petersburg, Hazleton, Elliston, and Riverton, with the potential for lingering impacts into the weekend in southern areas.

In Greene County, River Road and County Road 550 S are impacted by high water near Newberry and Elliston. In Daviess and Knox counties, roads such as Old Vincennes and Schaefer Road are impassable near Edwardsport. Bottoms Road and East Governors Road are also affected near Petersburg, where the river will crest early Thursday.

In Seymour, the East Fork White River reached 12.7 feet Tuesday night and is expected to stay above flood stage through late Wednesday. Riverton, along the Indiana-Illinois border, is seeing the Wabash crest at 15 feet overnight.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, use caution near riverbanks, and monitor updates at weather.gov/ind.
