Indianapolis, IN – A powerful winter storm continues to sweep across Indiana, with warnings issued for heavy snow, ice accumulations, and high winds through 7 p.m. Monday. The storm is expected to cause hazardous road conditions and power outages across central, southern, and eastern portions of the state.
According to the National Weather Service, areas including Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Terre Haute may see additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with ice forming a light glaze on surfaces. Winds gusting up to 40 mph could exacerbate power line damage and make travel conditions treacherous.
In Clinton, Tipton, and Fountain Counties, snowfall is expected to add another inch, with winds reaching 35 mph. Commuters are advised to exercise caution during the morning and evening rush hours, as slippery roads and reduced visibility could pose significant risks.
Residents are encouraged to delay travel if possible. Emergency supplies such as flashlights, blankets, and water should be kept on hand. For updated road conditions, motorists can dial 511.
Officials warn that conditions may change rapidly, and drivers should allow extra time to reach destinations. Travelers are also reminded to avoid sudden braking or acceleration and to maintain safe distances between vehicles.
