Indianapolis, IN – As the remnants of Hurricane Helene approach, Central Indiana is preparing for heavy rain and high winds on Friday. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 40 to 55 mph, especially near the I-70 corridor and southern parts of the state. Localized rainfall of up to 4 inches could also occur.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the heaviest winds and rainfall will hit Friday evening. Northeast winds will increase throughout the day, potentially causing hazardous driving conditions and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Residents should prepare for possible power outages, secure outdoor items, and remain vigilant for changing weather updates. Winds are expected to be highest late Friday into early Saturday.
Northern Indiana is also expecting gusts between 35 and 45 mph, with rain likely throughout the weekend. The storm is not expected to cause widespread flooding, but weather conditions will remain unsettled through Sunday.
