Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is bracing for a significant drop in temperatures tonight, with a frost and freeze warning in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service warns that temperatures could fall as low as 30°F, especially impacting areas along major roadways like I-65. Residents are urged to take precautions to protect sensitive plants, outdoor equipment, and water pipes.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will peak today between 51°F and 56°F with isolated showers expected across northern Indiana through midday. However, conditions will shift dramatically tonight as the region faces a widespread frost risk. The frost warning covers much of Central Indiana, including areas around Lafayette, Kokomo, and Muncie, where temperatures are expected to plummet.

Tonight’s low temperatures are forecast to range between 30°F and 38°F, bringing the potential for frost and freeze conditions that could damage unprotected vegetation. Residents are advised to cover outdoor plants, bring pets inside, and ensure that outdoor faucets are insulated to prevent burst pipes. Those traveling on I-65 and other major roadways should prepare for colder conditions and potential frost patches that may impact early morning travel.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to rebound slightly on Wednesday with highs reaching the upper 50s. However, another round of patchy frost is forecast for Wednesday night, with lows again dipping into the 30s. Warmer conditions are anticipated later in the week, with sunny skies and highs near 68°F by Friday, offering some relief from the cold snap.
